2nd Annual Match Joey's Miles
Tax deductible
This is my 2nd annual fundraiser to honor Joey and one of his proudest accomplishments- hiking the Appalachian Trail. Through this event I ask friends to get outside and hike, bike, float, whatever your fancy, and send me a photo to upload to the Instagram page. Feel free to share your mileage and any details, and match it in the form of a donation to this event’s GoFundMe page.
This year, I chose to donate to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a nation-wide non-profit dedicated to saving lives and providing support and hope for survivors of suicide.
Last year, my parents and I were extremely moved by how many people participated, and shocked by what a substantial donation was able to be made in his name ($2,634!). I will always keep the target amount at $500 to symbolize the number of miles (roughly) that Joey hiked on this trip, and I hope we can exceed it every year in his memory.
Last year's fundraiser really meant more than I can express, and helped us survive the one-year mark of losing him. Having something like this to remember and honor him while helping others with the same struggles allows there to be some joy on this hard day, and is incredibly special for us to feel such love and support.
Thank you to everyone who participates, at any capacity, and thank you for remembering my brother and best friend.
