Hi! My name is Norah Grace Hollon. I was one of the many grandchildren of Hugh and Nellie Walker. My grandparents were some of the most loving people I ever met. In today's world, there’s harsh division, and morality is questioned daily. Today, POC, members of the LGBTQ community, those that are disabled, and people who struggle with mental illness are discriminated against. So I’m here to tell you just a little bit of my family history and why this fundraiser has begun.
I was adopted at birth but continued being raised alongside my biological family, the Walkers. My grandparents, Nellie and Hugh, had three sons, one of whom struggled mentally and physically. However, he was one of my absolute favorite people for as long as I knew him. They also had a daughter, who gave me two of my favorite people even today: my cousins.
I was raised around inclusion my entire life. My family consists of members in the LGBTQ community, multiple of us struggle with mental illness and disabilities, and some of our family members are people of color. Despite our many struggles and differences, my grandparents loved us all and were the true meaning of Christianity. They would hate to see the hate spread around today. They would hate to see their babies and grandbabies hurting. They would hate to see what was said and done to people who couldn’t control their circumstances.
So, in their honor, with permission from my family, I have chosen to begin the Walker Love Fund, with all proceeds going to the human rights campaign so that while hate continues to spread the push towards love for all can continue.
