Raising money to help a hardworking family destitute due to COVID-19

As many of you may remember, two years ago I traveled extensively around Indonesia. The spirit of this country completely captivated me. One of my most memorable trips was to the island of Gili where I experienced the overwhelming majesty of the ocean with the help and equipment of my amazing guides. Eddy and Marki own a diving equipment shop on the beach and welcome tourists from all over the world with open arms. Not only are they the warmest hosts in their business but even in their home, introducing us to their charming pet goat Gempa .Pillars in their community and fondly remembered among all the countless clients they service, Eddy and Marki’s heartfelt welcome epitomizes the giving nature and love of the Indonesian people.




I have had the pleasure of keeping in touch with them since my trip and was devastated to hear that due to the COVID-19 pandemic and dramatic plummet in tourism on Gili, Eddy and Marki were forced to sell their shop. Weeks away from giving birth to their first child( with umbilical cord in baby neck ) , this family finds itself in significant hardship with no means of income and no government support. During my last FaceTime with them, I was brought to tears hearing about how Marki sold her wedding ring to be able to keep food on their table .

I know times are especially tough for everyone right now, but if you could spare whatever you’re able, I hope we can help this family stock essentials for their home and newborn baby with the same open spirit and compassion they showed for all their guests, myself included.
