Financial Abuse of Disabled Elder

Victim of Elder Financial Abuse! Taken advantage of by his care giver. Please Help Mike Save His Home!
Mike is my brother. He is a 75 year old man who has Cerebral Palsy. He and his wife of 33 years owned their own home, lived modestly and had no financial debt. After Mike's wife died from complications of MS Mike remained in their home, but needed someone to help with his day to day care and run his household.
As a result of these changes and because of his fierce independence to stay in his home, Mike entrusted a "friend" to step in and help. This friend moved in and took over. Because Mike is physically unable to prepare food or cook and cannot use his fingers for many household tasks, including signing his name, this "friend" was given access to his bank account to pay bills, shop for groceries and maintain his home. After 6 years of trusting this person he now finds she had been ignoring bills, not paying property taxes and amassed nearly $95,000 of fraudulent credit card debt by signing his name and hiding any notices or bills.
Despite his limitations Mike worked hard all his life to succeed in taking care of himself and his wife. Against the odds he got a job at the Multnomah Kennel Club where he worked for 42 years. Even after the dog races closed, he again found a job providing security at local concerts. He can only get around by using his scooter. However as he ages his condition has become more concerning. He is adamant about staying in his home and lives frugally to ensure he can. Had he not been scammed he would not be facing this crisis.
Mike has filed an elder abuse police report and has been advised by an attorney there is no hope for monetary recovery. Mike's family has instituted power of attorney for him and stepped in to find legitmate home care.
Although Mike's life has been full of challenges, he has always been extremely independent. He has never asked for nor received disability or any public assistance. He's worked hard for what he has and never asked for a handout.
Mike's home was built to accommodate his handicaps and this is where he needs to be. Please help us save his home. He doesn't deserve to have everything he's worked for taken away. The funds raised will be used to settle liens on his home, pay delinquent taxes and settle other financial debt.
Thank You!
