SO! YOU'RE ALL INVITED!!
This is a virtual baby shower for a new member of our Community and Tribe, whom we haven't met yet! (The baby!)
As a surprise to Beryl Ouimette, who is due to give birth within the next 2-weeks, we would like to help finance a significant renovation of a room in her home that she needs to turn into a nursery.
Beryl is living in her 100 year old birth home, in western Wisconsin; in a house left to her by her beloved mother who died a few years ago. Due to Stacey's health issues, they need to keep things on the first floor. Subsequently, the room she needs to turn into a nursery is actually a three season porch. It needs some major work to help make it safe and habitable for the new babe.
The old plaster walls need to be repaired and painted. The window and frame needs to be replaced, as does the flooring. It needs a vent installed so as to provide heat in the winter. There is an exterior door that is in serious disrepair, the door frame needs to be replaced, and hopefully, a screen door added to the outside, to help protect the new finish on the original old door, which she plans to re-use. Lastly, there is a need for some rewiring of electrical sockets and light fixtures.
She has a family member that is helping with the work so, she's saving with the 'family and friends' rate there but, materials can be costly, and as many of you know, babies bring unexpected costs. One unexpected blow was a misunderstanding with her employer about paid maternity leave. Turns out she's not getting it. When it rains, it pours.
We could do a conventional shower but this seemed like such a perfect way to honor and celebrate a family that has been such a presence at PSG, and within the Earth Traditions community, and personal friends to so many of us. It gives us a chance to participate in this happy occasion of welcoming together, while providing something useful and needed.
Come to the party! Let's do the 2018 version of an old barn raising and all pitch in together to transform this room! No gift too small.
UPDATE: Boden Erik Enslow has arrived and we've exceeded our goal for the nursery update. Will post pics o that soon. Thank you all so much.
