Helping a struggling family.

I recently travelled to Phnom Penh Cambodia to support our Australian Joey’s Soccer Team compete in the “AFF u16 Cup”. I had a lot of intention before and throughout my trip, to find and help even one child that was less fortunate than we are here in the Western world. Rather than put countless dollars into an organization which for the most part do a lot of good, but money seems to be wasted up in administration cost and so on.
Unfortunately, this beautiful country has suffered so much under mostly the “Pol Pot” regime. This horrible act of mass genocide has left this country with many in need. I found it troubling to find or single out someone more needing than the next, with many children working the streets for a dollar and in many cases, the parents taking the money for non-essential needs. Leaving it hard to assess how the money I send from my family is going to be spent and if that child will receive the benefits themselves.
This was until I had the pleasure of meeting a lovely man whom welcomed me into his family, taking me out to dinner and spending what little money he has to show me a lovely time. My now dear friend “Mon” has a wife and 4 lovely children who all work endless hours to provide the bare essentials of life. Mon himself and his older son, work two jobs each and then in their time out of these minimum wage jobs, grow crops and going fishing to feed their family. Keep in mind what we in Australia spend on a lunch out, is more than what they would earn in 4 days.
I offered the oldest son to come with me to watch Australia play in the finals in VIP seating as he loves sport but he had to decline as he was too exhausted after studies and work to even attend. Mon himself was busy all night at his second job, trying to help his children get an education worthy of an attempt at a better life.
I have made arrangements to send periodic payments from our families’ income to help toward seeing his children get the education they need to rise from poverty and be closer to a “dream life” that we all take for granted. Whilst my family can make a difference, I know together we can make a dream come true for a family with so little, yet such huge hearts.
I now ask the public of Australia and abroad to open their hearts and help raise enough money to make this happen. We all sit and wish to help in some way I know and now I am making this possible with no money going to waste on administration costs etc. Just our cash donations going 100% to them. I know the webpage has its fees and we have a small $12 to $20 fee to wire the money but at least this family will see nearly every cent we raise. Please share this with family and friends and even $1 from everyone we will meet the target. Your $1 means a meal for them.
