Upon observing what modern monocrop agriculture has left the state of the land today, like rapid soil degradation, water contamination and pesticides, we got inspired to create a change around us. Althought we can't change the world, we can change ourselves and make a difference in a few peoples lives, in this case a small village.
The Dale Pues Project is a permaculture farm set in a rural town in Nicaragua. Our aim is to become a fully self sustainable farm, educate and inspire the village to follow suit and move towards a greener direction. We want to set an example , to show how possible it is to grow food organically, use techniques that benefit the earth rather than destroy it and introduce composting and recycling.
Permaculture is a set of ethics and ideas which mimics nature in agriculture. It is a design system that integrates all the components into one whole. We intend to apply these ideas in every aspects of our lives and in the community.
We are two young motivated nature enthusiasts from the United states and Canada, who have just purchased a 12 acres piece of land on the pacific coast in Northern Nicaragua. It is in a village called Salinas Grandes where rural folks make their living and hard earned wages through agriculture of sugarcane, salt and fishing. Traditional agricultural practices have left the soil dry, salty and nearly impossible to cultivate. We want to introduce this new method of farming to regreen the area, help the locals learn how to grow food for themselves in a way that benefits them and future generations, and we want to introduce composting and recycling at the local schools and in their homes. Nicaragua has also experienced harsh years of drought making it difficult to cultivate with lack of water supply therefore we want to introduce permaculture methods of rain water collection and watersaving .
Our vision is for the village and ourselves to become more independent and greener. We need your help to buy the necessary tools, equipment, and resources to make this vision possible. The money will go towards buying shovels, saws, cement ,rakes and all the necessary items to start the basic construction and layout of the farm, after we will get solar panels, a water pump and barrels to build an ecofriendly way of getting electricity and water and finally we will use the rest to promote our ideas in the schools, buy equipment , buckets and bins to start the composting and recycling programs.
We are really grateful for the opportunity to do something positive in our lives that can benefit not only us but people around us. Any money that you donate will be used to help us reach this goal and create a brighter tomorrow.
