Baby Kade
On April 6, 2020, my precious grandson, Kade Thomas Lambert made his way into this world. Just 3 weeks shy of his due date, he arrived via c-section. When Mommy and Daddy welcomed him into this world, they were not prepared for the road ahead (what was to come). Kade was placed in the NICU at Riverside the day he was born. They were monitoring him, his glucose was low and they had concerns around his liver. But two days later they noticed he was much less active to the point where he was hardly reactive. He was then transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital with a focus on neurological issues. They've been working on the answer to the question why is this happening since. Mommy, Daddy and Kade had to be tested for potential genetic/metabolic issues. Baby Kade's blood platelets dropped, requiring blood transfusions. He eventually had to be placed on a ventilator and feeding tube. His
liver enzymes were climbing. They performed an MRI of his brain. That came back confirming the doctors suspicions that he'd had an event of no oxygen to his brain around birth. They diagnosed him with a brain injury, moderate HIE. The area of injury can effect his movement. Knowing this, he could potentially need help learning to crawl, walk etc. Once the MRI came back, we thought we were in the clear. He was improving to the point he didn't need all the help he initially required. On Saturday he was free from all the tubes, leads, needles, etc. Kade was slowly learning how to bottle feed. He was finally on the rebound, or so we thought. Sunday was going great but came to an immediate halt. Kade started seizing and had to be placed back on the ventilator and feeding tube. He was medicated for his seizures, and thankfully they were all short and shouldn't cause any additional damage.
Along with these issues hes having issues with his liver, and has had issues with his kidneys but his kidneys are improving everyday. The doctors are thinking all of his issues are related to the lack of oxygen event. Losing the oxygen to his brain at birth may have caused the tidal wave of problems hes been experiencing. However the doctors are doing additional tests on his liver to make sure there are no underlying issues there, and the genetic testing that was done wont come back with any information for 2 weeks. He still has a lot of issues that havent been ironed out yet but his labs are slowly improving.

We are asking for help with Kade's bills, future procedures, treatments, therapies and any uncertainties that lie ahead. Kade’s mommy and daddy are having to deal with the hardest situation they’ve ever faced during such an uncertain time with COVID-19. Kade’s daddy isn’t working right now due to his job being shut down because of COVID and he’s one of the many who’s unemployment is pending. Kade’s mommy was working until his arrival but unfortunately she learned in March that her position was being terminated at the end of her maternity leave. They are also feeling the effects of COVID in that they are not able to both be with their son everyday. The hospital rules only allow one parent one visit per day. While that visit can last all day long it is only allowed to be one parent. So one of them has to stay home and wait by the phone for updates while the other is at the hospital on their own. It’s a horrible situation for two new parents to have to face.

Please keep baby Kade in your thoughts and prayers.

This sweet baby has been through more in his one week on this earth than anyone should have to go through. His mommy and daddy love him more than words can describe and just want him to get healthy and come home. Please send all the prayers and good thoughts to him.
