Dr RONX is running BIG KILOMETRES for SistahSpace
Well, here it is.
My charity page for this years London Marathon.
Sistah Space is a charity that I have big love for. The founders Ngozi and Mamma Rose are absolute inspirations. Their tireless efforts to support African and Jamaican heritage DV/DA survivors knows no bounds.
I met Mamma Rose serendipitously maybe in 2015 on Mare street where she had her book stall.
That spot was a hubub for people in Hackney like many people I was taken in by her warm smile, gentle nature and obvious years of wisdom and knowledge.
We became friends!!
I met Ngozi after she was awarded a Hackney community civic award. I was on the judging panel and was utterly blown away by her personal quest to support black and brown DV/DA survivors via the charity Sistah space.
I left home as a teenager to escape a home life that wasn’t safe for me.
Independant existence since then has had its ups and down.
I couldn’t have become who I am today without the support of school friends families, friends who became family , strangers, teachers, health care professionals, partners, therapy etc etc and I must forget, a determination to be the best that I can be.
The details of my personal journey are not important, but the message is that not one of us has any IDEA what each of us has been through.
Perceived success is not a reflection of an easy past or the demons one is still fighting.
With an unwavering strong foundation, the tree of my life will always need support and that’s OK!
So here I am entering that stage of my life where I have a small influence, and I wanna give back.
Giving back is a cumulative, on-going, not one time event.
People see what ya doing, who ya helping and I hope also wanna do, wanna help, spread the word and spotlight.
Big money helps but the sum of small amounts helps too!
I love a challenge and before I reach 40, an age that I never thought I’d ever be alive to see, I wanna do a marathon.
I’m doing the London.
Walk, run or crawl. I’m finishing it.
Sistah Space is my chosen charity.
The first donation to get things started is £100 from the car booty I did at Princess May School.
Don’t really have a target, just wanna raise money, spread the word of Sistah space and inspire folk to support grassroots founded charities.
FANX for reading this far!
(And forgiving the typos and punctuation errors that I’ve prob overlooked!)
