Back to school fundraiser!

My name is Chancelle Bamuhaye, and I am an activist primarily focused on promoting children's rights in Burundi.

As it has become a tradition, for the previous three years, at the beginning of each school year, I organize a collection of school materials for the Batwa children of the Busekera site. The site is located at the edge of the natural forest of Kibira in the Bukeye commune of Muramvya province. A site inhabited by 80 families, which consists of 219 children; 107 are girls, and 112 are boys.

As we all can agree, education is indeed a vital weapon to prepare children for their future roles as leaders of our country. However, in Burundi, the school enrollment rate of Batwa children remains significantly low. This sad reality this village has not been spared from is brought upon by various reasons including poverty, discrimination, and ignorance. In addition, since the creation of the village, no child has managed to complete their academic careers.  

For these reasons, I am firmly motivated to offer these children opportunities and the means to attend school to complete their academic careers since they are the future of Burundi. 

For the school year of 2021-2022, which will begin this September, we have 152 children who require materials that will support their learning process. In addition, they need support that will provide them access to a foundation that will allow them to complete their academic careers and move on to bigger and better opportunities.

As you have supported me for the past three years, I come back to you to ask and urge you to help me in my efforts of collecting school materials (notebooks, pens, uniforms, etc.) for these children. Your assistance will help in the academic development of these children and will also work as a factor in solidifying the development of our country as a whole.

 

As we say in Kirundi, "umwana ni kazoza k'ejo" (English: "A child is the future of tomorrow")

Je m'appelle Chancelle Bamuhaye,

je suis activiste dans la promotion des droits de l'enfant au Burundi. Comme c'est devenu une tradition depuis 3 ans, au début de chaque année scolaire, j'organise une collecte du matériel scolaire en faveur des enfants batwa du site de Busekera situé à la lisière  de la forêt naturelle de Kibira dans la commune Bukeye de la province Muramvya. Un site qui compte  80 familles dont 219 enfants( 107 filles et 112 garçons).

Au Burundi, le taux de scolarisation des enfants batwa reste faible et cela pour des raisons diverses dont la pauvreté, la discrimination, l'ignorance,...

Le site de Busekera n'est pas épargné de cette triste réalité. Depuis sa création, aucun enfant n'a réussi à achever ses études.

C'est pour cette raison que je suis motivée d'offrir cette opportunité d'aller à l'école  à ces enfants, Burundi de demain.

Pour cette année scolaire qui commence en 2021-2022, c'est 152 enfants qui sont en besoin de scolarisation ( 59 enfants débuteront leurs cycles primaires )

Comme vous m'avez soutenu à chaque année, je reviens vers vous pour vous demander de m'aider dans cette activité de collecte du matériel scolaire( cahiers, stylos,uniformes,...) pour ces enfants. Ainsi nous aurons contribuer à l'édifice du développement du pays en général et à un avenir meilleur de ces enfants en particulier.

Comme on le dit bien en kirundi "umwana ni kazoza k'ejo".
