Steve "Hambone" Collins, class of 1970 at Lumberton High School and former fullback for the Pirate football team needs our help at this point in his life. It's time for all his friends and friends of friends and the people of Lumberton to step forward and help Steve and his wife Margaret to overcome the effects of having a massive stroke at age 63.
Steve was blindsided by a stroke in 2015 and has been fighting to recover ever since. Steve would have run through a brick wall if his football coaches had told him his doing so would help Lumberton win the football game. NOW We have to run through the brick wall and knock a hole in it because Steve can't do it. He wants to but his body won't allow him to. We need to provide funds so Steve can get back to rehab and get the medical treatment he needs so he can once again attack that brick wall.
Steve's old high school football coach and several of his old team mates have decided we need to step up and give our old fullback an open path to the end zone and that path to the end zone runs through this fundraising effort. Without the funding, the path is blocked and It will be almost impossible for Steve to get into the end zone.
The monies raised will be used to help provide additional rehab, medical expenses, housing, and improving his quality of life.
Now is the time to stand up and cheer our old # 41 as he puts his head down once again and tries to get into the end zone. We cheered and clapped in the late 60s and now we get to do it again.
His family, his former classmates, his former coaches, and his friends will be forever grateful for any and all funds that will be given to this endeavor.
Hambone always had his friends and team mates back in good times and in bad. TODAY is our opportunity to have his back and provide for him.
