Water for waterless villagers

My name is Michael Cook I am 15 years old. My mother is from Madagascar. My grandfather was born in the village of Androka, population 2,700. His village is far from any paved road and government services. The villagers are fishermen and farmers. They must walk 1.8 miles “3km” to get water for their daily needs from holes that have been dug from the arid ground. The nearest river is 6.2 miles away. It is mostly the task of children to get each family's daily needs. The children trek to the holes, fill jugs with water and carry them back to their houses in their heads. It is my goal to have a well dug in the village so the children do not have to trek almost four miles to get water.

We have found a partner who will drill and install a well with an above ground cement wall and a metal lid for $1,500. It is my goal to raise this money and provide a well for this village. My mother, my brother and I will be traveling to the village this august. I hope that we will be able to officially open the well while we’re there. My maternal grandmother is in the village presently. She will oversee progress on the project until we get to Madagascar. I have put $150 of my money in the bank account we’re using for this project. I will respectfully request a small donation from you to help me reach this goal.
