El Salvador Clothing Fund

Dear friends and family,

I'd like to take this opportunity and invite you to join us in helping kids in El Salvador. While there are many areas in El Salvador that are in need of help- we would like to start off in a town located near Los Naranjos- it is a rural road filled with coffee plantations. There are about 300 school-age kids that are in need of basic supplies that will enable them to get to school.

For some of us, we had a parent, relative or friend drop us off at school and/or pick us up.  Some of us took the school or city bus while some of us walked to school.  The kids we are aiming to assist are currently walking 60-90 minutes to school through jungle terrain each way, Monday-Friday! That is their only option.  Many of these kids, if not all of them, don't have the appropriate shoes or clothes to wear, while others have parents who have decided that it's not practical and don't let them attend school at all.

There is a great need and my family has felt the call to help meet it- but we need your help, too!  Although there are many ways we would love to help (build a school closer to the coffee farms, organize a school bus line, pave roads, pay public school tuition, etc.), we want to start off with their basic and most pressing need.  Beginning in June, there will be rain and strong winds that these kids will have to walk in- just to get to school.  We would like to ship appropriate clothing and school supplies as soon as possible.

If you feel it in your heart to help these kids, we are accepting donations of rain boots, rain jackets, small durable umbrellas, backpacks, warm pants and sweaters, scarves (new or gently used).  If purchasing new, we encourage neutral colors so we may give out to either boy or girl.  The age range is between 5 yrs to 13 yrs old and their shoe size ranges between 12-7. These may be dropped off at 507 Quartz Street, Redwood City 94062 OR we can arrange for pick-up, if needed.

In addition, if you prefer to make a cash donation we have opened an account where you can contribute by clicking on the "DONATE" button.  We in turn will take these funds and purchase the items listed above and make sure we have 300 of each.  The remaining funds will be used to purchase school supplies (books, binders, paper, pencils, etc. and cost of shipping).   Currently shipping is $200 per box and we hope to ship at least 3 boxes by May 1st.

Thank you in advance for your help and consideration. It is  because of your generosity that we can attempt to do great works through simple acts of compassion and humility.
