Books for You Miami

Books For You is a None profit organization created by Alejandro Barriga in March 2020. Books for You redistributes used or new books and educational material completely free to communities, schools, or organizations in need at the local, state, and international levels.

 

Many people do not know these problems exist, much less worry about them. This problem mainly affects immigrant, Hispanic, and Black communities. For these demographics, their education could improve with our help.

Books For You was born as a response to the questions we ask ourselves; "How can children that do not have access to educational materials improve their current condition?" "Who helps them?" "Why should we care and support them?" 

Creating boxes with logos started as establishing relationships with tutoring centers around the City of Doral. These tutoring centers gave us an advantage and a quick start to collecting books. Since they were frequently visited by families that would constantly hold piles of unused books. 

Noticing the disposal of unused books as we live in a virtual world. We started to leave designated boxes in different locations around Doral. Thanks to the assistance of Art Shack Doral, Homework Plus, the Doral Tennis Center Club, we could fast-track many of our book collections.  

Even though we started on a fast track, unfortunately, we hit a wall when the pandemic began to close business, and the "stay-at-home orders" from the government started. Therefore we had to implement our social networking strategies to continue with our goal. We began working with WhatsApp, sending messages to everyone we knew asking for book donations. We created the website and the Instagram account @bfymiami, where we quickly made ourselves known, and our donations grew. At that moment, organizations and communities began to contact us for help.

At this time, we are spreading our organization to other parts of South Florida, where we are in talks with new Ambassadors who, with their work, will positively impact the City of Orlando and its surroundings.
