HomeSafe Edinburgh

In response to recent events, I’ve decided to try and set up a way to provide free taxis home at night for women. By using black cabs, this would ensure safe, vetted and traceable drivers.

The idea is loosely based around women being able to get in a taxi, mention HomeSafe and be taken home or to a place of safety, free of charge. This would then be covered by us, using donations accumulated over each month.

I have already met with George Aird, the chairman of City Cabs in Edinburgh to discuss how we could move this forward.

In order for the service to work, HomeSafe would be an account holder with City Cabs. Users would then need to download the City Cabs app, sign in using our account details and fill out some details (name, DOB, and address). Trips would then be bookable via the app and would take the user home via stops also booked in the app if there was more than one person.

I’ve had a couple of messages since the write up on Edinburgh Live so would just like to say that this would be a service for ALL women, and HomeSafe very much standby that transwomen are women. Transwomen will always be welcome to use this service.

Eventually I hope this service will become available for EVERYONE. But until we can develop a way to prevent people inevitably abusing it, we thought it would be best to offer it to women first.

If anyone would like to get involved or share fundraising ideas, please drop me a message.

Thank you
