Hi, my name is Sue and I am fundraising for Janette Mayers

I have worked with Janette for over 17 years. She is a dear friend and colleague to countless nurses and medical staff at RCH where she is a Registered Nurse and Patient Care Coordinator on the Orthopedics/Trauma unit. Before coming to Canada, Janette nursed in Scotland for 12 years and that is where most of her family lives. Her son Kevin, who lives in Scotland, has just been diagnosed with cancer and Janette is going to Scotland to care for him and his young family during his treatment and recovery. In order to do this Janette thought the only way she could manage financially was to retire immediately in order to start collecting retirement benefits. When we heard this today, we thought there must be a better way. She is not ready to retire, nor does she want to. We need her with us at RCH where she makes such a difference everyday for her nurses, the physicians, allied health and other staff she works with. More importantly, Janette is dedicated to her patients and their families, going above and beyond on a daily basis.

With our help, Janette can take an unpaid leave of absence, go to Scotland to care for her son without financial worry, and return to her RCH family following his recovery. After a career spent caring for others, Janette needs us to care for her.
