Aiden’s fight against Leukemia!
Aiden is Mme Audrey’s son; she’s an amazing educational assistant that works in St. Albert Public Schools. Please read on to hear about her incredibly strong son’s journey so far!
On March 3, 2021, Aiden started to run a fever when he returned home from school. The following morning the fever had dissipated and he was feeling better. At the end of the day, however the fever returned and stayed for four days straight and Aiden started to limp when he walked. Over the next week, he started limping more and more and his parents and school staff were starting to notice a decline in his energy levels. By March 20, his parents were noticing he was not his usual feisty, energetic self and he was having a really hard time walking so his mom took him to the Stollery emergency room.
After a long visit to the ER, he was sent home and told he had fifth disease. His mom sought out a second opinion and reached out to their family doctor. Aiden was then sent for X-rays and blood tests and quickly seen by a pediatrician who insisted Aiden return to the Stollery emergency department. The pediatrician was concerned enough she called ahead to the Stollery to ensure Aiden would be seen quickly and not sent home until the appropriate tests were run. In the middle of the night on April 2nd, the word Leukemia started coming into the conversation and by Monday, April 5th, Aiden’s bone marrow was tested to confirm the doctors’ diagnosis.
Aiden has been diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and has begun chemotherapy treatment. He is currently on 7-8 medications per day to help regulate his pain and the effects of the medication and disease while his body works overtime to kill the cancer cells. Luckily Aiden is a feisty little guy who is really good at communicating with his parents and the doctors about what helps alleviate his discomfort and what doesn’t.
His older sister, Megan is staying with their mom’s co-worker who has graciously opened her heart and home to their family while his parents spend their days and nights at the hospital with Aiden in meetings with oncologists and specialists, helping give Aiden medications and trying to keep him happy and comfortable by pushing him around in his wheelchair in the spaces they’re able to visit due to Covid-19.
Our intention by starting this GoFundMe is to assist Aiden’s family with any and all costs that have been added to their plates in order to successfully support Aiden, his sister Megan and her parents through this very tough period in their lives. Thank you for any and all support.
