PROM-THEMED CLOTHING DRIVE FOR DC YOUTH
Greetings,
I hope this message finds you well and in great spirits. Now, you probably don’t need me, or anyone else for that matter, reminding you of just how difficult this past year has been for so many people around the world. Moreover, it is with those hardships in mind that I’ve decided to commit myself to doing something more about it.
On May 8th, 2021, I will be hosting a Prom-themed clothing drive on Black Lives Matter Plaza in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. The goal is to boost the morale of a couple hundred teens in the area with some added style and sophistication via new clothes to use in order to either actually go to a prom and/or to take with them as they begin their new journey of either attending college, trade school or entering the working world. Considering that the majority of the young adults in the District who are going off to college this year didn’t have a traditional Senior Year, a Homecoming Dance or a Prom, it was important to me to do something to soften the blow of them missing out on so many crucial developmental milestones thanks to Covid-19. As such, my team and I will need a generous donation of clothes, gift cards etc so that these young adults can use them for whichever path they may take once this school year draws to a close.
My team and I are hoping we can count on our networks for support for not only this event but also for the many more we have coming down the pipeline around the country. As always, doing the difficult work to uplift communities of color takes everyone to pitch in every which way they can. With that said, every cent donated to this GoFundMe account will specifically and exclusively go towards social justice events. We thank you in advance for your empathy and your time.
