About me: My name is Max Humpf, University of Missouri graduate (go Mizzou!), United States Army Veteran, traveler, brother, and son.
Helping others is what drives me. Becoming a lifeguard, volunteering as a firefighter, getting my EMT license, earning my degree, my work at the University Hospital, joining the military, teaching English as a second language, and the work I did at Kilgore’s Medical Pharmacy .
I consider myself truly fortunate that I love my work. However, recent international events have inspired me to take a more direct hand in the aid of people in need. The loss of my twin brother, Alex, a decade ago changed who I was and the recent loss of my mother to a lengthy battle with cancer has given me a profound understanding of what loss is.
I see people fleeing a country consumed by a seemingly endless war. I see families torn apart. I see children drowning on beaches. I see all of this and I am moved. I have resolved to go to overseas for 6 months working in a refugee camp. I will be doing everything: making sandwiches, patrolling beaches, handing out blankets, leading other volunteers, teaching English, and performing life-saving medical procedures.
The donations made for this fund will be paying for my flight to the island of Lesvos and beyond along with my room, board, bus pass, and other living expenses.
A $25 donation will pay for my lodging and food for a day. For 9 hours a day, 7 days a week, you can help me make a difference in the lives of countless refugees working with various organizations such as Starfish, IRC and others.
Follow me on Facebook or Twitter for updates on where I am and what I am doing that day.
Questions? Message me on Facebook, email me, or text me and I will respond as soon as possible.
Thank you!
