We started trying to get pregnant and have a baby in July of 2018. We tried for about 9 months before going to a fertility specialist. She put Katye on all kinds of hormone medicines, and medicines that would help her become pregnant. We had found out before this, that she had PCOS, which would make it harder to get pregnant. After about 4 months of the medicines, we decided to do some more research with the OBGYN. We found out she had a septum in her Uterus, that basically cut it into two separate areas. We were told, even if she did get pregnant if the embryo attached to the septum, there would not be sufficient room or oxygen to grow. She had to have it surgically removed. They went in and scraped it out. After 3 weeks or so, we went back for an X-ray to see how the procedure went. They did not get enough of it, and she had to have a second surgery to remove the remainder. During this time she continued on the medicines from the fertility specialist, but we could not try to get pregnant until after she healed. After about 18 months of trying we finally decided to try an IUI, that also did not take. The following month, we made the decision, that we should just do IVF. We had the egg retrieval done, and the embryo implanted over the course of the next couple of months, along with purchasing and taking all of the medications required to do IVF. It was a success. However, at 22 weeks Katye’s water broke. We were told that the likely hood of the baby surviving if she went into labor was very low, and would remain that way until about 28 weeks. Some of the doctors even recommended getting rid of the baby, which we would never do. We were sent him for a week, and told there was nothing they could do that early, but maybe at 23 weeks we could do something, if she made it a week without going into labor. At 23 weeks we checked into the hospital and began a series of antibiotics and steroids, that would help the baby mature in certain areas faster. Dean was born at 30 weeks and 5 days. At 30 weeks and 7 days the NICU found air in his belly that was outside of intestines, causing them all to be pushed to the side. He had to be lifelighted from the Woodlands to the medical center at 3:30 in the morning. They took him into surgery, removed the air, and had to take a small section of his stomach out around the hole. They believe the hole was created by his feeding tube. Since then it has been kind of up and down. He was on a ventilator for 8 days, and only getting IV nutrients. He has since started eating again, but has had several set backs. There is also a small bleed in his brain the doctors found this week. At this time it does not look significant, but we will find out more later this week. He has been in the NICU for over 4 weeks, and it looks like we have at least another 4 weeks to go. We are not out of the woods yet, but it looks like things are trending in the right direction. With my wife being out of work for so long, the baby still being in the hospital, and bills piling up, we could use all of the help we can get. Thank you for your support.
