FLIGHTS ARE BOOKED
WE ARE HEADING BACK TO INDIA!
As alot of you are aware we are heading back to beautiful India again to volunteer this SEPTEMBER and our mission is to help as many people as we can in the small amount of time we have there!
Our last volunteer trip to India was in January where we were so overwhelmed and touched by the people we met and the things we saw that we promised the children we would return again this year.
And a promise is a promise!
We will be basing ourselves again in Rishikesh to volunteer at Ramana's Garden Children Home which is simply the best children's home we have ever visited. Not because it has better grounds or facilities then others (infact it is in desperate need of expansion and more land to fit the children) but because it is based on all the principles of giving children love and a good education.
On our last trip we also spent alot of time walking the streets of India helping as many people as we could who were homeless and sleeping on the sides of the roads. This time we want to do more. We want to help more.
So thats why we need YOUR support!
Every donation we receive will go directly towards whatever you wish for.
This means you will choose what is done with 100% of the money you donate and we will personally see to it. We will be documenting our journey on Facebook and we will show you exactly what your donation did to help make someone's else's life that little bit better - basically we want you to feel like you are in India on this journey with us!
The options are endless especially in a country like India where the average person earns less then $3 a day! So even if you have only $5 spare to donate - that can dress a child or buy a family a basket full of nutrionous fruit and veges!
Last time we were in India we dressed 81 children and homeless people for only $500. So imagine the impact we could do with much more!
Our plan is to buy all these things once we are in India. This way the money we spend goes back into their economy.
You can be as creative as you like with what and how you want us to spend your money.
Here are a few ideas in the mean time -
#1 Ramana’s Garden is home to over 60 at risk children and a free English medium school for over 160 students from Ramana’s Garden and local underprivileged families. The school provides classes from kindergarten to eighth grade.
You don’t have to be an orphan to live in Ramana’s Garden. You have to be at risk. Every child that comes through Ramana’s gate is here because they would be at risk of either being murdered, forced into prostitution, child labour, begging, starvation or total neglect if they weren’t here. For me a child who has seen their drunken abusive father or mother-in-law pour kerosene over their mother and burn her, is at risk in that house. A child who suffers severe malnutrition because their abusive father drinks all the food money leaving the family to starve is at risk.
Your donation will go directly to the home which will be distributed towards the childrens food, education, shelter etc
#2 The Slums
We are willing to venture into the slums if you wish for us to help anyone there. We went into the Slums on one of our trips to India and it was truly heartbreaking to see some of the living conditions that the people were living in. In the Mumbai slums there was only one toilet to every 10000 people which was heart breaking. Yet the people and the spirit of those living amongst the walls of the Slums was incredible.
Ideas would be - Blankets, Vitamins, Food, Water, Clothing, Blankets, Cooking utensils. Just tell us what you want us to source for them and we will see to it.
Blankets cost around $12 each
Clothing $5 to dress a child
$10 to dress an adult
that includes underwear, socks, shoes etc.
Toys $3 a toy
Vegetables to feed a family $3-$5
Vitamins and supplements $10
Head lice and body lice treatment $10
Bicycles approx $75 each
Cooking pots $10
Childrens coloring books or pens $2
Cricket Balls and Bats but shouldnt be much - no idea how much these costs but they would make the kids so happy
Toiletries $3
#3 Homeless People
India's streets are lined with millions of people who cannot afford housing or to live in the Slums. These people are found sleeping and living on either sides of the busy streets. We are willing to walk the streets helping those living with the bare minimums to live a more comfortable existance.
Plastic sheet bundles Ive been told are around - $75 for a roll of plastic sheet that could be cut up and divided to many many homeless people. (we would be willing to actually build them shelter with bamboo too if requested)
Blankets cost around $12 each
Clothing $5 to dress a child
$10 to dress an adult
that includes underwear, socks, shoes etc.
Toys $3 a toy
Vegetables to feed a family $3-$5
Vitamins and supplements $10
Head lice and body lice treatment $10
Bicycle approx $75 (this is a great investment to homeless people)
Cooking pots $10
Childrens coloring books or pens $2
Cricket balls and bats - no idea how much these would costs but they would make so many kids happy
We are VERY open to hear other ideas or thoughts too! Get creative!
We cant wait to do this and share this journey with you all - when you make your donation please comment what you want the money to go towards.
A wise man once said
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others"
And as always the wise man was right
