Bringing Home Baby Barrett

Hi everyone! I’m starting this fundraising page as a surprise for some very special people, Joe and Allison Barrett.

Joseph and Allison are a couple in Northern MN that are the (literal) definition of true love. Both of them have faced hardships in life that no one should ever have to live through, yet by the grace of God, they pushed through to meet each other and start their incredible lives as husband and wife, soulmates.

Here’s a back story. In 2007 when Allison was in 7th grade she got sick. Really sick. She experienced constant symptoms for a YEAR including chills, fever, painful cramping, vomiting, diarrhea, and extreme weight loss. She got no answers until one morning her appendix ruptured. She got an emergency appendectomy and had to have the infection inside her body cleaned up. After a few days of ‘recovery’, Allison became unresponsive. Her medical providers told her parents to say their goodbyes, because they didn’t think she was going to survive. She ended up back in the operating room. It was then learned that her appendix had ruptured way before the date it was assumed to have happened originally. She was extremely infected, but this time the doctors were able to really clean the area and save her life. Allison recovered from this, but unfortunately the infection had been present and undiagnosed for so long. This lead to extreme damage to her Fallopian tubes, and in 7th grade she was told it would be extremely unlikely she would ever be able to get pregnant.

Not long after, Allison was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. This is an extremely painful inflammatory bowel disease that will affect her for the rest of her life. Her treatment for this consists of IV infusions every single month. These started in 2008 and will go on for the rest of her life. Because Crohn’s disease is so serious and severe, the drug used as treatment is classified as chemotherapy. She needs this to survive although it comes with tons of risks and adverse effects, one being infertility. Now not only does she suffer significant medical debt that comes along with monthly infusions and the immense physical pain that comes with a diagnosis of Crohn’s, but she also had the burden placed, again, that she may never carry her own baby.

After meeting Joseph, they both knew they were soulmates. They fell in love instantly and wanted to bring another life into the world to raise as their own. They knew it would be hard to conceive, but that didn’t hinder their determination.

Six years ago they starting trying to “Bring Home Baby Barrett.” They immediately got insight from an OB-GYN. They tried naturally and it didn’t work. They tried Clomid (a drug used to help increase fertility) and timed intercourse, and it didn’t work. They tried Clomid and artificial insemination, this didn’t work either. Finally, they decided they wanted this baby bad enough that they would try IVF. IVF is an extremely expensive procedure where the egg and sperm are taken from the bodies to create an embryo (outside of the body) and after this embryo is formed, it is put into the uterus to implant. Joe and Allison had to fly to Syracuse, NY (the cheapest place available for this procedure) to have this done. They tried it twice and ultimately lost both sweet babies that were already so loved.

These people have ALL of the love to give to their own little person and they have moved Heaven and Earth in an attempt to do have this baby. After six years of trying, they have moved onto the process of adoption. They are on the home stretch of Bringing Home Baby Barrett!

This is where they need our help. They are tremendous people would never go as far as to slightly inconvenience a fly. They would never ask for money from a soul, so I’m reaching out for them. I’m sure we all know that adoption is not cheap. After tens of thousands of dollars in medical debt due to Crohn’s, thousands of dollars spent on IVF, their septic going out this year, AND Allison losing her job as an LPN due to covid... they could use a little help. Coming up with $20,000 more (which is just the start of it) is not going to be a cake walk in these hard times. Like I stated earlier, I know neither of them would do this for themselves, but if there’s anyone that deserves this baby - it is the Barretts.

If you feel compelled in your heart or if you have a little extra to spare please consider helping out this beautiful couple. This will be directly linked to their bank account, all fundraising money is going straight to Joe and Al and their adoption process.

Let’s Bring Home Baby Barrett. ♥️
