Help A Bernie Delegate Get to DNC

Donation protected
My name is Marcia Martin. On May 1st I was elected by my District to be a Pledged Delegate for Bernie Sanders in California Congressional District 40. It is a honor to defend the voice & vote of people in my district at the Philidelphia Democratic National Convention this July 25-28, 2016.

I am NOT a politician, nor do I intend to be. I am just a citizen who is geniunely & deeply concerned with the current state of things, who has been inspired & activated by the exemplary work of Senator Bernie Sanders. For the first time in my life I find a leader, a candidate's whose every word, action, & stance resonates with something deep inside of me. I can confidently say that I agree with Bernie Sanders stance on all the issues, not because I accept them blindly at face value, but because they were my beliefs before I ever heard him speak. He is the first US politician in my life time that has retained a high level of moral & ethical integrity throughout his career that is worthy of everyone's respect, admiration, & dedication.  And because of this I decided to apply as a delegate.

I have phonebanked, canvassed, volunteered every hour of my free time for the past 4 months.
Voter registration training & drives.
DTLA Mayday March & Rally for Bernie. Informing & educating voters about the importance of electing educated & dedicated delegates at the May 1st Caucus.
CD 40 District Pledged Delegates!
Canvassing East Los Angeles followed by MSNBC.

At Unidos Con Bernie event at the Historic Pico House.
Other bernie delegates & Rosario Dawson at Panel discussing Latino Voters role in this election.
Volunteered at Bernie Rally in Carson recruiting volunteers for this people-powered movement.
Re-registering a senior at a retirement community while canvassing. He thought he was registered as an independent, non-partisan, NPP voter, but like many voters I re-registered, he was actually under American Independent.

This whole process has been an enormously valueable  learning experience & has been eye opening, to say the least, to the multitude of ways our system excludes many from participating. I aim to be the voice for these people at the Convention. Votes are still being counted in California. The Convention will be a Contested Convention. Participating in this historical event by fighting in what I believe in will be priceless to me.  I believe True Democracy is possible & attainable in this country.  With the strength of my conviction & the endurance of my heart, I pledge to fight for all those whose voice has been silenced by our broken democratic system.

I ranked #1 position for the pledged delegates in Congressional District 40. And with the votes that have been counted this far, it is certain that I will go to the National Democratic Convention in Philidelphia in July.

The funds raised here are to cover the Official Estimated Costs of the Convention, which are priced for the 1%, & meant to scare the 99% away, but I'm not scared, because I know I am not alone.  Donate what you can, $27 or $2.70.

Estimated Costs According to the DNC:

Airfare to Philidelphia:                 $400-900
Hotel for 4 Nights:                         $2,600*
Food & Incidentals:                        $450+
Statewide Delegate Meeting:  $150+
Total Cost:                                          $3,600-$4,100

(I was advised by the campaign to raise my goal to $5,000, since gofundme does take a percentage of what is raised)

It is recommended by the Campaign & the Party that Delegates stay in the Hotel assigned by the State Democratic party in order to be able to attend early morning & late night meetings, be able to get their credentials in the 1hour period they are issued at the hotel, and meet & relate with other delegates, i.e. Hillary Delegates as much as possible. There will be a high security perimeter surrounding the hotels & convention center, protests, street closure & other factors that will affect ability to commute in & out of the area. I will be sharing my hotel room with three other delegates in order to lower costs. I would need the funds by the end of June at the latest to secure my flight & hotel room.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

~In Solidarity,
Marcia Martin
