Hi, I’m Michael Humphreys and it may sound like a sad story probably, but it's all true. I had to have back surgery in 2018, but the surgeon botched the procedure. I sued him and got next to nothing. The next surgery realigned everything, but I was told by the doctor that I would have some sort of pain for the rest of my life. My wife at the time decided to divorce me a few months into my recovery, still in my upper body traction setup. I lost my federal civil service job forever and was put on permanent disability, which meant a fixed income. I was made to leave her house and start sleeping on my sister’s couch for the next couple of months, all while trying to recover. No job, no income, no wife, no future. After a couple of years, I had to move out of my sister's, and I’ve been living in a trailer for over a year now. I struggle monthly to pay my bills on a fixed income. The only way I’ve been surviving is to live in campgrounds. I’m seriously not doing well. I don’t know what to do because I can’t afford much. I’m not looking for a handout as much as help to try to make a fresh start by getting out of my trailer and into an apartment or something similar. I’m sure most people will just hear a sob story, but when it’s real life, it hurts deeply to be in a position where you can’t even take care of some basic needs. Thank you for taking the time to understand and support if you choose. I promise it won’t be used for anything but getting back to a sustainable position in life.
