Hi! My name is Michael Greer. I'm a senior at Corona del Mar High School and a Life Scout in Troop 90 in Newport Beach, California. This is a GoFundMe page for my Eagle Scout Project at my little brother's elementary school. I will be constructing, staining, and installing four raised garden beds, as well as revitalizing an empty courtyard at Lincoln Elementary School.
The purpose of these raised garden beds is not only for the school to be able to grow fresh local produce, but to teach the students the vital components of successful gardening and nutrition. The reason I chose to do this project really stems from the incredible experiences I had growing plants in my school's greenhouse when I lived in Minnesota. I was fortunate to head a small group of students in 7th grade in growing lettuce and pumpkins for our school cafeteria. I truly believe in the need for a greater emphasis to be placed on healthy local growing and healthy nutrition within our nation's school systems.
The money raised will go towards materials for the project. The beds are four-foot squares, that are two feet tall. Hence, we will need close to 300 square feet of redwood, more than 80 cubic feet of organic soil, approximately 26 cubic feet of walk-on bark, and pumice. We will also be staining the wood, so that the garden lasts for many classes to come. All labor will be donated by me and other scouts, as well as family members and friends.
My project is scheuled for June 24th and 25th, 2016.
I thank you so much for ANY donation (really, no donation is too small!). If you are not able to donate, no worries, but a share would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,
Michael
