Hi, we are Peter and Tess. In 2018 we walked the Camino Frances from Leon to Santiago de Compostela. We encountered difficulties with food poisoning and just before the village of Trabadelo, in El Bierzo, we called out to Susi from Casa Susi for help. She picked us up, looked after us, cooked us a meal then drove us to our next destination. Asking nothing in return! With these simple, loving actions she became our Camino Angel.Susi and Fermin have been similarly caring for countless pilgrims since 2017 in their Donativo Albergue, Casa Susi in Trabadelo. It is a small Albergue of only 12 single beds and is famous for a friendly Australian/Spanish welcome, genuine care, support and of course the wonderful communal vegetarian meal using ingredients from their own garden.
Susi and Fermin have not been able to open this year due to the Coronavirus. In an effort to control the spread of this deadly virus the Spanish Government have imposed strict infection control procedures for all Albergues. This meant that Casa Susi could only provide 6 beds and no communal meal. Combined with the cost of keeping everybody safe, this meant that it was not financially viable to open. To make matters worse, supplementing their income with external work has not been possible due to the job shortage in regional Spain. Of course travel within Spain and to other countries is either impractical or impossible.
But dont take our word for it! Click on the link below to watch Susi tell you in her own words what 2020 has been like for Casa Susi, in an interview done recently with Rob from the YouTube Channel, RobsCamino.
Funds raised by this GoFundMe Campaign will be directly drawn on by Susi and Fermin and used to replace/repair the crumbling slate roof of the Heritage Listed Building that houses Casa Susi. If the roof is not attended to quickly the building will become unusable and unsafe and Casa Susi will close!
Many of you will have stayed at Casa Susi or have a desire to visit one day.
NOW is the time to open our hearts and wallets to give generously, and ensure the important service that Casa Susi Albergue provides to pilgrims, continues into the future.
