26.2 Miles for Pathways – In Support of Jill & Paul Riordan

Hi,

My name is Richard Henry and on Sunday 10th May 2026, I’ll be running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon —26.2 miles of training, discipline, and determination.

But this run is about much more than a finish line. I’m doing this on behalf of Jill and Paul Riordan (aka Rio or Pope Paul). Paul was diagnosed with young-onset dementia several years ago, and together they’ve been navigating the challenges that come with it ever since.

Jill and Paul are regular attendees of Pathways in Bradford, a support group that provides something truly vital—connection, understanding, and a sense of community for people living with early-onset dementia and their families.

What Pathways do:

  • Monthly peer support meetings where people come together with others in a similar situation, share experiences, swap practical resources, and support one another.
  • Online activities such as quizzes and carer support sessions.
  • Social activities that help people keep living life and staying connected, such as bowling, trips to pubs/restaurants, and outings to the theatre.

They have chosen Pathways as the beneficiary of any funds raised through this marathon, and I’m proud to support that decision. In Jill's words, Pathways has been a 'lifeline' to them and their family.

Pathways is self-sustaining. They pay for our regular activities and fundraise to cover costs and keep things as affordable as possible for those attending.

The Pathways' team is lead by Clare Mason and a wide mix of volunteers and supporters, including academics, people with lived experience (including people with dementia), former carers, and people trained in dementia support and advice.

Every mile I run represents:

  • People like Paul facing a diagnosis far too early in life
  • Families like Jill and Paul adapting to life-changing circumstances
  • The importance of having somewhere to turn for support
  • Pathways helps people stay connected, supported, and understood—something that simply shouldn’t be taken for granted.

I’m asking for your support. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards helping Pathways continue their incredible work—supporting more individuals and families facing early-onset dementia.
