My family is going through one of the hardest moments of our lives. As my mom and stepdad were in the process of getting their immigration papers, we went to what we thought was a routine appointment at an immigration center — only to realize we had been set up by undercover ICE officials.

Before going, we called our lawyer for reassurance that everything was okay, and she promised nothing would happen. Later, we discovered that our so-called legal counsel had been robbing us of our money — over $14,000 — and that most of her “legal advice” came straight from ChatGPT instead of real expertise.

We are desperate, lost, and most of all, confused. After being here for over 26 years, finally getting our own home, building a successful business, and paying thousands of dollars to lawyers — all just for our dream to be anything but reality.

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. Any help, no matter how small, would mean the world to us as we try to pick up the pieces and find a way forward.

Mientras mi madre y mi padrastro tramitaban sus documentos migratorios, fuimos a lo que creíamos una cita de rutina en un centro de inmigración, solo para darnos cuenta de que nos habían tendido una trampa unos agentes encubiertos del ICE.

Antes de ir, llamamos a nuestra abogada para asegurarnos de que todo estaba bien, y ella prometió que no pasaría nada. Más tarde, descubrimos que nuestra supuesta asesora legal nos había estado robando el dinero (más de 14.000 dólares) y que la mayor parte de su "asesoramiento legal" provenía directamente de ChatGPT, en lugar de ser una persona con experiencia real.

Estamos desesperados, perdidos y, sobre todo, confundidos. Después de estar aquí más de 26 años, finalmente conseguir nuestra propia casa, construir un negocio exitoso y pagar miles de dólares a abogados, todo para que nuestro sueño se convirtiera en cualquier cosa menos en realidad.

La verdad es que ya no sé qué hacer. Cualquier ayuda, por pequeña que sea, significaría muchísimo para nosotros mientras intentamos recomponernos y encontrar un camino a seguir.
