26 West Street Hazard Pay!
Donation protected
As residents of 26 West know, our building staff are phenomenal. Luisa and Guillermo keep this building looking like a hotel, while Michael, Jany, and Adonis welcome us when we come home, wish us a great day on the way out, manage our deliveries and packages like pros, and generally just do anything we ask them to do.
Right now, while most of us are hunkering down and "social distancing" in our apartments, each of these staff members are coming to work every day. Each of them, we believe, have to navigate public transportation to do so -- and at least one of them, Adonis, takes 2 trains and a bus to make it happen.
While we cannot choose for them whether they are "essential staff" or not -- under the governor's executive order, they are -- and while we know that all of them are happy and relieved to have a job during this scary time, we can make sure they are well compensated for their efforts and risk. So think of this as "hazard pay" for the dedicated staff in the building. Who knows how long this shut down will continue, so we'll start with $3000 (to be divided equally amongst them) and if we can hit that, maybe we'll adjust our fundraising goal.
We have a really great community in this building, and that's in part due to the fantastic staff! Let's show them our appreciation!
Best,
