Tanzania Clean Water Project



Hello, everyone, and thanks for visiting my page!

My name is Anthony Finley, and I'm planning to return to Tanzania from August 9th to 23th to embark on another water project. This will be my third trip in 4 years, and I'm extremely excited to be going back. 

I'm even more excited for this trip, because my 16 year old cousin, Savannah will be joining me for the first time. This will be her first time traveling outside of the US, and I couldn't think of a better way to experience her first time abroad than by giving back in the form of volunteer work. I'm looking forward to seeing the effect that such a major trip will have on her outlook and perspective as a teenager going into adulthood.

As some of you might know, water is a very scarce resource in parts of Tanzania. The women that fetch the water typically have to travel great distances multiple times a day to fetch water from either a natural spring filled with bacteria, mosquitoes and dirt, or from a well that is in great need of repair. I've seen firsthand how difficult of a trek it is to carry a huge bucket of water on top of your head in the blazing sun for 20 minutes. Believe me, it's not easy! A lot of time can be saved if there's a well built closer to the village. 

The organization I work with, E.P.I.C.(Everyday People Initiating Change) has been making the trip to Tanzania for a decade. I was fortunate enough to make my inaugural trip in July of 2012, and it has completely changed my life. Seeing the effect that water has on an entire village is something I can't put in words. It's absolutely amazing. 

The $4000 that I'm hoping to raise by July 9th will go towards the costs of my team's in-country expenses. These include travel within Tanzania, lodging, food, project costs(materials, testing, labor, implementation), training (educators, training materials) Team leader payment, as well as funds to cover 5 years of maintenance for each water project. This amount also includes my round-trip airfare from NYC to Tanzania.
