Cowpens Fire Department Fire Truck

For 38 years now, the Town of Cowpens has been holding an amazing festival every year to honor the Navy crewman for the 2 ships named after the Battle Cowpens. They have been welcoming the men and women from CVL-25 and CG-63 for years into their town and homes. Despite being so far inland, you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger Navy town than Cowpens, SC. The town and it’s people are some of the best, most genuine people you will ever meet and take ‘Southern Hospitality’ to a whole new level. Now it’s time for us, the Veteran’s of the USS Cowpens to give back in some small way.

In 1938, the Cowpens Fire Department acquired it’s second fire engine, a GMC truck that was used for years. The truck has been kept in storage and semi-preserved all these years. Due to funding and budget cuts, it’s not currently able to be driven. Every year as part of the Mighty Moo Festival, the town holds a parade. For years, the the fire truck was used and seen in the parade with pride. Given the financial restraints, it hasn’t been able to used in the parade for a few years now. I am hoping that with some help from all of us, we can give back to amazing people of Cowpens and help pay to have the truck updated to be driven again.

One of the departments mechanics has gone through the truck and with them donating the labor, estimates that for between $4000 and $5000, we can have the truck running in a safe fashion and able to participate in community functions, like the parade. Mechanically, the truck is sound. It needs new brakes, some engine updates (to convert it from 6 volts to 12 volts), a few cosmetic repairs and good detailing.

If we can all chip in what we can, even if it’s $20, we can pay for the repairs on the truck and see it in the parade this year. If only 250 of us give $20 each, we can make our goal. Let’s give back to say thanks to the town that has welcomed us in for so many years!
Thanks in advance and look forward to seeing everyone at the festival this year!
