Winter Essentials Drive: Year Three
Donation protected
“Life is very short and what we have to do must be done in the now.” -Audre Lorde
I was not going to do a year three for the Winter Essential Drive. But this is my response to one of the hardest years of all of our lives. It’s about community and my brief that mutual aid and sustainable neighborhoods across the globe are the future. I am keeping it simple. From November 9th to November 16th, 2020, I am working to raise $1,000 to create small kits for our neighbors that are currently experiencing homelessness or are temporary without permanent shelter. Learn more about cycling the term "homeless person" out of your vocabulary here.
Based on conversations with contacts in the community, the kits will include masks, gloves, hand warmers, fleece jackets, individual natural source vitamins, or other individually wrapped immunity boosters, hand sanitizer, and small amounts of cash (up to $250 via personal donation). I will also accept lightly used coats (I will pay for dry cleaning), gloves, winter accessories, and homemade masks.
You can use this Amazon wishlist to buy items or get an idea of the type of things that are being collected here . Some items will be purchased at Costco and receipts will be posted here and on my IG @teniola_o for transparency.
Last, I will brainstorm or share resources with anyone who is interested in doing a Winter Essentials Drive in their city this winter. Feel free to reach out to me on Instagram or via email: [email redacted]
Thank you for your support this year. Stay safe. Stay strong.
