Doing the right thing…

Without prejudice.

I’ve thought long and hard about what I’m asking of you and it’s stupid that I’ve had to put so much thought into it really. I’ve thought about the impacts it might have on me, the judgement it may bring, the opinions everyone will have plus I hate being embroiled in gossip.

Most people locally will be aware that the team of staff at a local restaurant were faced with immediate closure last week. That team up until recently included my daughter. That team all worked tirelessly WITHOUT pay for weeks on a promise that their pay was coming. Most of that team are school children, students, parents who are also loyal individuals that live in our community, who just wanted to serve their customers and continue to do the right thing for the restaurant to stay open. They are individuals that go out to work, who are proactive and respectful and they don’t deserve to be put in the position have been.

The rest you should all know by now has unravelled into pretty much what I consider to be a horror story for the staff, customers, friends and family. None of them asked to be part of the catastrophe that caused the closure

I don’t believe the statement made “no wonder the town is falling apart around you” is true, quite the opposite in fact. We have so many thriving clubs for both adults and children in Abertillery in sport, music, theatre, arts, youth clubs, cadets, brownies, guides, brass, church just to name a few! We have amazing and thriving small businesses in our town and I am proud to be part of it. I have always tried to supported local events through sponsorships, charities, donations and volunteering… So I’m asking YOU that if you could please this one time support me in return to raise the money needed to ensure this team of young adults and parents that have worked without pay get something. However small…

The money donated will be distributed amongst the staff and in the event that we raise more than expected the money will be donated locally decided by the team of staff themselves.
