Help The Homeless Survive Hunger and Concrete

The Story

The purpose of this fund is to gather resources
for the homeless population in our
neighborhood to help them survive this
pandemic and harsh weather ( heat and cold).

Our neighborhood has always had a high
population of houseless folks, and the pandemic has only made the situation more dire.

We believe in the resilience and heart of our
neighborhood and the funds donated to this
project will go to supplies needed for food boxes that will include masks and hand sanitizer. We
will also be launching an offshoot of our
successful sewing project Masks with a Purpose (a collaboration with the SouthWest Organizing Project) that will provide special durable bags
that can be used as sleeping bags. We can't do
this without you and appreciate any support you can offer. Your donations are tax deductible

Thank you for your generosity.

Now let me tell you a story.

I was so much in pain today and had taken
narcotics, but something kept telling  me to go
to the center where We teach sewing, English
and other life skills.

When I got there with my granddaughters there was a man sleeping like a dead man on concrete with bare skin - no clothes ( from the waste up)
in front of our center in the scorching sun
(97 degrees  Fahrenheit in Albuquerque
New Mexico  USA today).

I did not want to call the ambulance without
assessing Him first, so I called Him and He
responded faintly. I asked whether He was sick
and if so could I call an ambulance. He said No.
I asked Him whether He needed water and food and He said Yes.

As I left to go get Him water He got up and
moved His belongings to another place and laid under the trees where there was a shade.
My grand daughter  took a water bottle and
placed it by him.

I scrambled to find money to go buy Him food
alongside my grand  two of my four granddaughters

Southwest Organizing Project mask project.
First and second granddaughters to manage the food distribution and sleeping bag sewing/
creation. They also sew.

My third and fourth granddaughters to help withthe food, mask and sleeping bag sewing for the
homeless.  These young ladies will sew sleeping bags.
