My sister Jennifer recently passed away and things have been difficult for the family regarding her burial. I recently posted on Facebook regarding the situation we are going though. Unfortunately after laying her to rest, the family has decided to exhume her and move her to a different cemetery. This GoFundMe will help cover the costs to exhume her, arrange transport between cemetery’s, and the opening/closing for her in the new plot. The situation is outlined below. My father holds deeds to three graves that he purchased years ago at New Forest Cemetery, in Utica, NY. Two of them hold my grandfather and uncle; the last spot was for my sister who passed away not even a month ago. As we were leaving the funeral home the day of my sister’s services, my dad was notified by the cemetery that there was another body in the plot my sister was supposed to be buried in. Many years ago, the cemetery would bury people and not keep record of their locations. They placed bodies anywhere, regardless of whether or not that plot had already been purchased. At the time of my sister’s burial, the director in charge mentioned we weren’t the only family dealing with this issue. At the time this was happening, this period of mismanagement lasted for over 11 years!!! Now, just weeks after my sister’s burial, they’re talking about closing the cemetery. Jennifer doesn’t even have a head stone yet. The city is considering abandonment because nobody is willing to help or take it over. If the city doesn’t take the cemetery over, the gates will be closed and my sister’s plot will be lost forever. With your help, she can finally be laid to rest peacefully alongside my grandmother, in a different cemetery, who loved her dearly. Thank you everyone for your help and support in this matter.
