My sister Jennifer recently passed away and things have been difficult for the family regarding her burial. I recently posted on Facebook regarding the situation we are going though. Unfortunately after laying her to rest, the family has decided to exhume her and move her to a different cemetery.

This GoFundMe will help cover the costs to exhume her, arrange transport between cemetery’s, and the opening/closing for her in the new plot. The situation is outlined below. 

My father holds deeds to three graves that he purchased years ago at New Forest Cemetery, in Utica, NY. Two of them hold my grandfather and uncle; the last spot was for my sister who passed away not even a month ago. As we were leaving the funeral home the day of my sister’s services, my dad was notified by the cemetery that there was another body in the plot my sister was supposed to be buried in. 

Many years ago, the cemetery would bury people and not keep record of their locations. They placed bodies anywhere, regardless of whether or not that plot had already been purchased. At the time of my sister’s burial, the director in charge mentioned we weren’t the only family dealing with this issue. At the time this was happening, this period of mismanagement lasted for over 11 years!!!

Now, just weeks after my sister’s burial, they’re talking about closing the cemetery. Jennifer doesn’t even have a head stone yet. The city is considering abandonment because nobody is willing to help or take it over. If the city doesn’t take the cemetery over, the gates will be closed and my sister’s plot will be lost forever. 

With your help, she can finally be laid to rest peacefully alongside my grandmother, in a different cemetery, who loved her dearly. Thank you everyone for your help and support in this matter. The family greatly appreciates it.

It is with so much sadness that we are reaching out to everyone. Feathers has been a staple of the LGBTQ+ community for 42 years. We have been home to thousands of people both patrons and entertainers, but times have changed. Feathers is now in danger of closing permanently. We have been closed for 4 months with no income due to the pandemic. We have struggled to stay afloat through this terrible time. As time goes on and with all the restrictions placed on us by the government for the safety and health of all of us, it has become clear that without everyone’s help we may have to close the doors forever.

Feathers opened its doors on June 21st,1978 when being gay was not widely accepted. We opened so that our community could have a safe place to call our own, we have championed for social acceptance and equality. We are the longest-running gay club still in existence in NJ today and only one of a few left. In good times and bad, Feathers has been the place to go. We have all laughed, danced, partied, and cried together as a community in this place we call home.



The Covid-19 global pandemic has taken so much from all of us. We now live in a changed reality and the future is hard to imagine without Feathers. Today, we are asking you to help save Feathers from closing its doors forever. We are facing an uncertain future and the road to recovery will be long and tough. Without your support, we will face a very bleak future.
