Papermill Food Hub

Thank you for your interest in The Papermill Food Hub, located in the heart of the Kensington neighborhood. Currently, this already struggling neighborhood, caught right in the middle of the opioid epidemic, has had their misfortune compounded by COVID-19, rampant unemployment and the recent looting that took place in their neighborhood after the protests against police violence. As a result of these compounded factors, items such as groceries, diapers, toilet paper and masks are hard to access. The Papermill Food hub is working to provide as many boxes of groceries and essential items as possible to the families in need. We started this program just over three weeks ago delivering to twenty-one families in their neighborhood. One of our founding members has worked for years in the neighborhood providing Early Intervention to children with Autism. Calling on her co-workers, she was able to collect the names of the families struggling the most and ask about their direst needs. Most asked for diapers for their children who tend to be slower to potty train as a result of Autism Spectrum Disorder and gave us the harder to get (and costliest) diaper sizes. As the weeks have gone one we’ve increased our distribution to 29 families every week. It takes about $25 to supply the families with what they need every week currently and we are constantly sourcing more and more partnerships with other local food stores and hubs.
