As many of you know, my sister Rachael is my best friend. In 2023, Rachael was diagnosed with a heart condition called Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome or ‘POTS,’ because of this, Rach’s heart does not work as well as it should - leading to fainting episodes and intense pain. Actions such as standing up can make her heart rate reach as high as 225 bpm. Because of this, myself and Leah will be walking 225 miles in the month of June in support of ‘Cardiac Risk in the young.’ Each week, 12 seemingly healthy young people will die of an undiagnosed heart condition in the UK. Charities such as CRY offer cardiac screenings for those concerned, support for the families of those affected and provide many more important resources.
