SOGNA(Scam Our Grandma Never Again

At the start of this previous month my grandmother was targeted by some ruthless predator to scam her out of a significant amount of money. She received a phone call from a person claiming to be my cousin, her grandson, Thuro. The man said that Thuro was in a car accident and had severely injured a little girl. They directed her to get in touch with another party, “Thuro’s lawyer” to help pay for his legal assistance. Upon reaching this “lawyer” she was told that she would need to send $12,000, in two separate transactions of $6,000 each, to a remote location to be shared out for recompense to the family of the little girl and legal fees. She was also directed to keep the entire thing a secret because if it were known what her grandson had done it would do irreparable harm to his reputation. Also, if the details were out in the open the mother of the little girl might change her mind about the deal and Thuro would be in much more legal trouble for his part in the event. Of course, my grandmother was determined to help in any way that she could and had been convinced that this situation was genuine. After she had sent the money, she found that she was no longer able to make contact with the supposed “lawyer”, so she contacted Thuro directly to see if he could provide her with an alternative means of contact. At this point the disgusting ruse was discovered when Thuro had no idea what she was talking about and had never been involved in any accident of the sort. As you can imagine, my family is distraught that any human could be so cruel as to target an elderly woman whose first instinct is to do all she can to help those in need. I, personally, have never seen her deny her assistance to anyone that asks it and she often goes above and beyond to bless others with her generosity of spirit. All through my life I have witnessed her goodness and activity to serve others and have seen her as a great pillar of integrity and love towards her neighbors. To see her the victim of someone that shows the exact opposite morality is heart-wrenching for myself and other members of my family. In the past few years I have had a few worries, as anyone would that sees their beloved family members age and take on new challenges that come with it, but I had never thought that anyone would be as inhumane as to make her an aim for financial gain through stealing her hard earned money. I didn’t really know to be looking out for this kind of attack that cost her so much that she could not really afford to lose. We see stories of loss every single day and we know that now, especially in these times, there are many in worse conditions. However, we can not sit still and not at least attempt to do something for a woman who has always given her best for others throughout her life. We are hoping to get my grandmother her money back, in part or in totality, through others reflecting the kind of generosity she has always shown. Please, if you are able and willing, consider donating a sum to help us restore the money to my grandmother and ease the burden of her loss.
