Feeding Families for the Holidays — A Community Effort
During COVID, my son had an idea that changed how our family celebrates the holidays. At just 12 years old, he decided to give up his Christmas gifts so that others could have food on their tables. What started as one child’s selfless gesture has grown into a community movement to help families in need.
Our goal has always been simple: to support local schools, sports programs, and families who rely on in-school food programs — especially during the holiday break when those resources aren’t available.
In our first year, we partnered with a few schools in North York and our local basketball program to deliver 25 nutritious meal kits.
Last year, thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, we expanded our reach to schools in North York and Markham, supported women’s shelters, and even delivered food directly to some of Toronto’s most vulnerable neighborhoods — providing a total of 356 meal kits.
We are deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together and grateful for everyone who has contributed. It’s amazing to see how one young boy’s act of kindness has inspired so many to come together to help others.
This project truly is a family effort:
- RT Partners, our family business, matches donations dollar-for-dollar.
- My spouse’s team at Sunnybrook helps manage logistics.
- My former basketball players volunteer to lift, carry, and deliver thousands of pounds of groceries.
Every dollar raised goes directly toward purchasing fresh, healthy food for families who need it most.
Thank you so much for your support and for helping us continue this tradition of giving back. Together, we can make the holidays a little brighter for those who need it most.
With gratitude,
Mark
