What Is The 100 Miles of Nowhere?

Originally, the 100 Miles of Nowhere was a race without a place. Elden Nelson (the Fat Cyclist) did the first 100 Miles of Nowhere by himself, back before he knew it would be annual at all. He did it in a basement on a trainer. The second year a bunch of folks — from all around the world — did it (separately) together, and people sent in their stories, many of which were published at Fatcyclist.com. Since then, the event has had as many as 500 individual event hosters annually.

The 100 Miles of nowhere is a ride to support Cap City Cyclists and a partner local organization, and each year we make a real difference by coming together to provide much needed resources to make change in our local community. this year ride entry and donation proceeds will be split between Cap City Cyclists and a pair of local food pantries : the Fritz Food Pantry at Goodman Community Center, and the Allied Food Pantry!

Capital City Cyclists, or CCC is a cycling advocacy group based in Madison Wisconsin. CCC's goal is to promote cycling throughout Madison and it's surrounding area by hosting events, facilitating group rides, and promoting cycling as a whole for those who love bikes and the joy they bring.

The Fritz Food Pantry at the Goodman Community Center provides groceries for more than 350 households every week. We believe everyone should have access to a variety of healthy, fresh foods, regardless of their income level, and we’re proud to provide this valuable service to anyone in our community who needs it.

The Allied Food Pantry is located inside the Boys and Girls Club in the heart of the Allied Dunn’s Marsh neighborhood. We provide fresh food and essentials to over 450 households or 1800 neighborhood residents monthly. More than forty volunteers generously donate their time to help distribute food equitably. Their efforts include stocking the pantry, setting up and taking down the waiting area, checking in clients, grocery shopping, and transporting donated items.

For many years Cap City Cyclists Co-Chair Ryan (IG:WarpedWheel) rode this ride as originally intended, by himself, with many friends and supporters joining in for parts and coming to cheer him on. This is the second year that Cap City Cyclists is inviting people to join us in making this event a community effort. Joining in to ride 30,60, or 100 miles with us either as individuals or as a team relay effort.

The event date is Saturday, September 13, and the course will be a .8-mile loop near Reynolds Park and Breese Stevens Field on the isthmus just east of downtown Madison. 125 laps completes the full 100 miles, 75 laps is 60 miles, 38 laps is 30 miles. The route can be found (and followed via the free to download app) via Ride With GPS:

The event date is Saturday, September 13, and registration is via SignupGenius here:

For this who can't join us in the challenge, this gofundme is a way to support our efforts with monetary contributions, which will be evenly split between Cap City Cyclists and the aforementioned food pantries, just like the registration fees for race entrants. Every dollar helps make sure that Cap City Cyclists can continue to run awesome events and provide top tier social cycling opportunities, and that our local good pantries can continue to impact the community by providing food and resources that's badly needed.
