Who is InvestED?

InvestED.org is an education nonprofit. We partner with nearly 700 public schools across Washington State to help children from low-income families and communities Get to School, Engage in School, and Graduate. Learn more.

Nearly 60 years ago, our mission was founded on the simple belief that, "Small acts of kindness can make a big difference".

We're excited to partner with the Go Fund Me Charity platform for the first time this year. We believe this it's a way to reach more supporters at a time when students' needs are greater than ever.

With each of us doing our small part, we can help even more kids achieve this school year.  



The Needs

As we prepare to begin a new school year, it’s tough knowing that nearly 500,000 students in our state are living at or below the poverty line.  As a result, many of them won't have the funds needed to fully engage in school. 

As a parent and concerned citizen, it’s heartbreaking to know that some kids will be taping their shoes together in a few weeks because the soles are falling apart. Knowing that many kids can't afford new pencils, books, or hygiene products. Or pay the school fees required to attend classes or participate in extracurricular activities. 

Many of these young people are brilliant and talented. They could take the advanced level coursework - or star on their schools’ sports teams - or be musical standouts in their schools’ bands. But they simply don’t have the money to pay for AP and IB course fees, or athletic equipment and fees, or even renting musical instruments for the year. 

Can you imagine?  I wish these were just hypothetical situations. But they are real-life snapshots of the obstacles that children face every school year. 

How does InvestED help?

With ongoing support from generous donors, sponsors and partners, InvestED sends money to nearly 700 middle and high schools each year. 100% of those funds are spent directly on students who need urgent help. 

Our model is simple but powerful. It's built on trusting local educators who know their students' needs best. We work closely with school staff and our work would not be possible without them. Whenever our educators see children struggling, they are empowered to intervene immediately and discretely. There is no paperwork for students to complete. Or permission slips for parents to sign. "No Red Tape. No Fuss." This allows students to get urgent assistance.

In a normal year, our funding helps at least 25,000 kids. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the need for our niche support has increased exponentially.  Thanks to our increased visibility during the pandemic and new partnerships, InvestED has been on the front lines of some of Washington's most critical efforts. We've worked with educators and organizations statewide to provide children with food assistance and basic needs, laptops and technology, Wi-Fi access and online resources for remote learning, and much more.

Our 2021 Bridge the Gap Campaign gives caring individuals and organizations a chance to join us. You can help us raise an additional $250,000 in community support. 100% supports kids in need.
