2020 Rue STNRT Access and Development Fund

The Gary Rue Access and Development Fund was created in honor of Gary Rue, 2012 Hiker Challenge participant who tragically lost his life while hiking the Trace. Gary's love for hiking and the Trace, his encouraging voice is missed. With your support to the Rue Fund we are able to insure that the Sheltowee Trace is there for future generations and is open and accessible to all.
Directional signs on the Trace, bridges across streams, staircase down steep hillsides are crucial for accessing the Sheltowee Trace NRT. In 2020, the STA continues our support for construction projects in the Big South Fork and the Daniel Boone National Forest.
On the schedule, in addition to the regular trail maintenance we are looking at completing the nine mile extension into Rugby Tennessee, replacing bridges, and replacing 20 signs at road crossings. These projects are designed to enhance your trail experience and enable you and your family to safely enjoy the Sheltowee Trace.
We have seen a growth in the number of users coming to the Trace which is good. But it also places a new demand on the land managers and the STA to maintain the Trace to the highest standards. With your donation to the Rue Fund, we are able to have the resources on hand to see these and other routine projects completed.

The Sheltowee Trace Association: A 501(c)3 non-profit formed to protect, preserve, and promote the Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail as a significant national resource for the enjoyment of hikers, bikers, and equestrians, and for the value that wild and scenic lands provide to all people.
