In March 2024, after seeing a rise in male suicides in our area — and realising how few places there were for men to open up — I decided to do something about it. That’s when I started Newark Town Team Talk, a men’s peer support group based right here in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Every Monday evening at 7pm, we meet at the Newark Town Football Club pavilion. It’s a safe, welcoming space where men can talk openly about their struggles, get support from others who understand, and end the night with a friendly game of pool or darts.

Since we started, we’ve seen the real difference a simple conversation can make — helping men feel less alone, more connected, and more hopeful.

But to keep going, we need your help. I will be taking part in a 20 mile walk on the 22nd of November in a bid to raise funds to expand our group offering. Your donation will help us cover the cost of our venue, provide refreshments, bring in guest speakers, and spread the word so more men know we’re here.
