We embark on a great effort to give our Czech and Slovak communities in the Boston area a place, our place. Why?
1. Almost 80 years ago the “Sokol” was sold in South Boston. Imagine it was after WWII.
2. During the Covid we could not rent anything, even when many schools resumed in-person learning. It took us from March 2020 to October 2021 to finally rent the venue for our Czech weekend school T.G.Masaryka and Slovak weekend school M.R. Stefanika. Being outside in cold, in hot weather, bitten by mosquitos at times.
A place for our community would not be just where our young generation would learn the language, music and tradition. It could also be a place where we could host events, where we could have a library. A place where we could keep our folk costumes (kroje) for Dožinky or Mikulaš. A place where we could gather, which would make our community even stronger.
If we raise $333,333 we can have a place in mid to western Massachusetts.
If we raise $666,666 we can have a place beyond Rd 128.
If we raise $888,888 and more, we are getting closer to the Boston area where we most often meet. In Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge, Somerville, Charlestown, etc
We can start with a smaller place for the Czech and Slovak weekend language school. We are thinking of our older generation where they can socialize. The ideas are endless, the goals are ambitious. We will do the maintenance with our volunteers or hire some professionals if needed. The nonprofits with 501 (c) 3 status mostly don't pay RE taxes which would be the biggest savings.
A group of our members celebrated E’s 55th Bday via Zoom in 2020 and raised $1650. She did not accept it but matched it. So, 3,300.00 became the birthstone and foundation of our future place. "Czech and Slovak Cultural and heritage center" Vladislav and Estera Mlch pledged to match the first $10,000 donations in 2023.
Ideally, our wish would be to raise
$20 from 44,444 people which is not impossible or
$200 from 4,444 which is more likely or
$2 000 from 444 people or
$20 000 from 44 people or
$200 000 from 4 + people we don’t expect
Combinations of these might be and we would be just so thankful for any donation.
Our generation can do it. Our generation can make it happen. Our generation can make history.
The time has come for the 20th anniversary of the Czech and Slovak Association, Inc.
The time has come for our Czech and Slovak communities in the Boston area.
The time has come for us to have our own cultural, sports and heritage center.
Michal Cečko, you asked me many times why don't we have a club, so here it goes!!!
Keep dreaming! My only regret I have not done it while you and Nataša still lived. When even an older generation of Masaryk Club lived, Jiři Pyro, Jana Kupkova, Oldřich Kyn, Jarmila Vogel, Vodička Family and many more kept our heritage vibrant and alive in Boston Area. As they say, politics is local. I say caring, goodwill, and Love is Universal. Thanks to Patrik Kisucky from Motion Still Studios for this video. Thanks to all board members and advisors for your ideas, enthusiasm and believe. Music composed by: Juraj Holoda from Colorful People, lyrics by Esrera Mlch.
Sincerely,
S úctou,
Estera Mlch
