WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Hello, we are David and Camila and we’d like to share with you our story and motivation to take part in this amazing solidarity project.
We grew up together in the UK, however now in our early 20’s we are living apart and we’re at a stage in our lives where we want to contribute to something larger than ourselves and mark a positive difference in the world.
So we decided to embark on a 2500 km solidarity trip through Morrocos to hand in donations directly to those in need - we are going as part of an organisation called UNIRAID!
We will be focusing on education material, providing laptops, books and many more means of learning as we believe that’s empowerment, and toys, because don’t we all remember having that favourite childhood toy. Strangely enough for me it was a red rubber skeleton and for Camila a Nemo plushy.
What is UNIRAID?
UNIRAID is a solidary adventure trip in which participants must complete 6 stages navigating with a roadbook, and avoiding all kinds of obstacles, challenges and tests, with the aim of crossing northern Morocco to the south and deliver over 40kg of solidarity material to schools in the desert.
️️Our journey!
First of all we will finally reunite in our homeland to then embark on a ferry to our starting point: Tangier. We will then cross Morocco through the interior, crossing the Atlas, where we will deliver solidarity and school supplies, and then we will continue south, towards the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will travel through the desert following the old Paris-Dakar routes, until we reach Marrakech and back to Tangier.
This will be done old-school without GPS or electronic devices, with only a compass, a roadbook and in a 40 year old Ford Fiesta that we have already acquired and are preparing!
Entrepreneurial Spirit
The task of crossing the desert is far from being the only challenge, they begin much earlier as we have to plan and organise the project, in addition to taking responsibility for all the expenses involved in the adventure, which we calculate to be over €4,000. With effort and dedication, obtaining collaborations and sponsorships will be able to make this adventure a reality.
️Solidarity
One of UNIRAID’s fundamental pillars, it offers the opportunity to experience it in a tangible and moving way.
Each participating car carries a minimum of 40 kg of charitable materials as a testament commitment to the project. Every kilogram we carry makes a difference in the lives of those in disadvantaged situations.
In addition, the fact that the distribution of these educational and charitable materials is done directly to families and schools in the desert villages, without intermediaries, adds a unique value to the solidarity at UNIRAID. Donators will have the opportunity to see their very donations being handed in.
Our Solidarity Proposal
We want to make the most of the opportunity to bring solidarity material and help families and schools in the project. Our goal is to be able to stand out, contributing more than required and differentiating ourselves from the other participants, thus making a significant contribution to the lives of those who need it most.
We believe education is empowerment, so me and Camila will have a special focus on gathering material in order for children to have access to modern education. Our main targets for sponsorships will be tech companies and stores to provide laptops and other goods that we can donate. We have also already collected a considerable amount of clothes and toys. We don’t want to be just one more participant in Uniraid, but to ensure we have done as much of a difference as possible at the end of this journey.
The car
We want to show not much is needed to take action, so we have chosen what for many was a daily companion, a ford fiesta, and with it being 40 years old, not much can go wrong, there’s no electronics, not even power steering, the old iron engine has proven itself reliable and is best against heat, personally I find this car very charming. We won’t be doing many aesthetic changes as all we want is for the car to endure this trip safely, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun, the bonnet will be painted black so those who want to be a part of this project can sign their name on the hood for a symbolic amount of 5€
Help us help
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of the projects: registration, car preparation, social outreach and sponsorship seeking which so far we have been paying out of our pocket.

PRECISAMOS DA TUA AJUDA!
Olá, somos o David e a Camila e gostaríamos de partilhar um pouco da nossa história e motivação neste projeto de solidariedade fantástico!
Crescemos juntos no Reino Unido, agora nos nossos 20’s moramos longe, e estamos numa fase da nossa vida em que queremos contribuir para algo maior que nós e marcar uma diferença positiva no mundo.
Decidimos então embarcar numa viagem solidária com mais de 2500 km’s com a UNIRAID para distribuir doações diretamente a quem precisa.
Iremos focar em material educativo, nomeadamente portáteis, livros e outros meios de aprendizagem pois acreditamos que educação é o que capacita pessoas e o futuro. Iremos levar roupa e brinquedos também porque… Todos nós temos memórias daquele brinquedo de infância. Estranhamente para mim (David) era um esqueleto de borracha vermelho, e para a Camila um peluche do Nemo.
O que é a UNIRAID?
A UNIRAID é uma aventura solidária em que participantes têm de completar 6 etapas a navegar com um roadbook e superar todo o tipo de obstáculos, desafios e testes com o objetivo de atravessar o Norte de Marrocos ao Sul e distribuir mais de 40 KG de doações para escolas no deserto.
️A nossa viagem!
Primeiramente, eu e a Camila iremos finalmente nos reunir em Portugal para embarcar num ferry ao nosso ponto de partida: Tangier. Iremos depois atravessar Marrocos pelo interior atravessando Atlas onde iremos distribuir as doações que angariamos a escolas e pessoas. Continuamos depois para o sul pelas dunas de Erg Chebbi. Iremos viajar pelo deserto seguindo o percurso da antiga rota Dakar-Paris até chegarmos a Marrakech e de regresso a Tangier.
Tudo isto será feito à moda antiga, sem GPS ou dispositivos eletrônicos, apenas com um compasso e um road book num pequeno grande Ford Fiesta com 40 aninhos que já compramos e começamos a preparar.
Espirito empreendedor
Os desafios começam muito antes de atravessar o deserto, até lá temos de planear e organizar o projeto, assegurar todas as despesas envolvidas nesta aventura que calculamos ser acima dos 4000€. Com o esforço e dedicação, angariando colaborações e patrocinadores conseguimos tornar esta aventura numa realidade.
️Solidariedade
Um dos pilares fundamentais da UNIRAID é que oferece a oportunidade de uma experiência tangível e comovente.
Cada equipa terá de levar no minimo 40 kg de doações como compromisso ao projeto, cada kilo faz diferença na vida daqueles em situações menos favorecidas.
Esta distribuição de doações ser feita diretamente a familias e escolas em aldeias no deserto sem intermediários é um dos fatores diferenciadores desta iniciativa, doadores irão ter a oportunidade de ver as suas doações a serem oferecidas diretamente a quem delas precisa.
A nossa proposta solidaria
Queremos aproveitar ao máximo a oportunidade de levar material solidário e ajudar familias e escolas no projeto. O nosso objetivo é destacarmo-nos contribuindo mais do que necessário e certificarmo-nos em termos um impacto positivo na vida de quem precisa.
Acreditamos que educação é o que irá capacitar jovens e o futuro, o nosso foco é material para acesso a uma educação atualizada e moderna, dando ênfase à angariação de empresas de tecnologia como patrocinadores para doação de portáteis, tablets e outros meios para acesso e facilitação a educação. Já conseguimos também angariar uma quantidade considerável de roupa e brinquedos. Queremos ser mais do que uma equipa participante da UNIRAID e certificarmo-nos que no fim desta viagem aproveitamos ao máximo esta oportunidade de contribuir e dar um sorriso ao maior número de crianças e família possível.
O carro
Queremos mostrar que não é preciso muito para tomar ação, escolhemos então o que para muitos foi um companheiro no dia-ó-dia, um Ford Fiesta, e com os seus 40 anos, não há muito que possa avariar, não há eletrónica nem sequer tem direção assistida, e o seu motor com bloco em ferro é especialmente resistente a altas temperaturas, pessoalmente acho o carro bastante charmoso.
Não iremos fazer muitas alterações estéticas, o nosso foco é que o carro esteja pronto e seguro para esta viagem, o que não significa que não nos possamos divertir, o capô será pintado de preto para que cada pessoa a quem este carrito nos ajuda a levar um sorriso possa autografar com um marcador branco, esperemos que no fim desta aventura o capo estará mais branco do que preto.
