Bardarash Camp Shopping Centre

Project Description

Bardarash camp was opened in 2019 to help support a new wave of Kurdish refugees who fled their homes after the invasion of the cities of Serê Kaniyê and Girê Spî‎ - in Rojava, by the Turkish forces and their jihadist backed militias. More than 2500 families came to Bardarash camp but now only 1200 remain. Although the circumstances in the camps are dire for all of its inhabitants, we have identified the need to support the most disadvantaged members of the camp-
respectively. Upon construction, these shops will provide a source of stable
income for the vulnerable members of the community- namely; women and people
who suffer from a disability, who will be the target beneficiaries of this project. Furthermore, these shops will reduce the risk of problems which often arise amongst impoverished communities such as child labor, begging, theft and domestic violence.

-

We will be working closely with Barzani Charity Foundation to succesfully complete the project and will strive to maintain our core values regarding transparency with the public, progress reporting and accounting for all spending. Beneficiaries will be selected in cooperation with BCF and camp management according to the standards of the vulnerability, disability and families in most need.

-

- 13% of the female headed households will receive daily income and will have their own business.

- 25% of people in the camp who suffer from a disability will have their own small business.

- The shopping area will be more organised, clean and easier to manage and support.

- The project will reduce the risk of problems such as child labor, begging, theft and domestic violence from arising in the camp.
