Fundraiser for Lucas Parker

On October 9th 2018 my family was leaving for what they thought was going to be the trip of their lives. Disneyland, LEGOLAND, and seaworld was on the agenda. Little did they know what was in store for my 2 year old nephew Lucas. While down in California Lucas contracted e coli (HUS). The HUS strain is rare, and only found in 10-15% of cases. It is the most severe type that can be caught, and it attacks the old, young, and the weak. Unfortunately for my 2.5 year old nephew, he falls under that category. HUS attacks your organs. Specifically your kidneys, brain, and pancreas. On the day of October 18th. My family had awoken with expectations that they were going to be spending the day in seaworld. However that was not the case. Lucas was showing signs of illness, and my family decided that it would be best to leave immediately. I don't need to get into detail of what happened in that 20 hour drive home. But things were rapidly getting worse. My family stopped at a hospital in Olympia Washington. As my nephews conditions were getting grim. The hospital administered IV, anti nausiants, and basically sent them on their way back to Canada. Upon return to Canada my nephew was taken to Richmond hospital for observation, IV, and other tests. On the morning of October 21st we were advised that my nephew was on the wait list for a bed in Children's hospital. We were advised that he must likely wouldn't get a bed until the following morning. Well lucky for Lucas that was not the case. Children's hospital had a bed for him within 2 hours, and we can't be anymore grateful. 4 am the next morning. My nephew was found unresponsive, and unconscious. He was immediately escalated to PICU. Where he has been ever since. Lucas has had extensive damage to his brain, as a result of the HUS e coli. But lucky for him the Drs, and nursing staff have been nothing short of amazing. We have gone from thinking that we are going to lose this special little guy. To finding out that he is going to start the rehabilitation process. Lucas has a very long road ahead of him. As well as my family. Lucas will be spending at least the next 3 month's in Children's hospital, and then will be moved to Sunny hill facility for more rehabilitation. This gofundme is set up to help with the costs of living, and medical expenses. Though the Dr in the U.S. said he would bill the insurance company. My brother was slapped with a $5000 hospital bill. As this is happening my brother can not work and support his family, the cost of travel to and from the hospital, the cost of food, and whatever other expenses they may incur in the next month's ahead of them. If you can not financially show support. Please share this story. Or please pray for my nephew. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, The Parker family
