Attorney Carrie Peltier and Paralegal Julie Small are traveling with a small group of other attorneys from Minnesota to Tijuana on February 15th to volunteer for a week with Al Otro Lado. Al Otro Lado is a bi-national, social justice legal services organization serving indigent deportees, migrants, and refugees in Tijuana, Mexico. Their mission is to provide legal services and to uplift our immigrant communities by defending the rights of migrants against systemic injustices in the legal system.
Al Otro Lado and other similar organization depend almost exclusively on attorneys and legal professionals who leave their lives and businesses behind to help this important mission. Because of their work in the field of immigration law, both Carrie and Julie know first hand how the humanitarian crisis on the border is affecting families, particularly women and children. As mothers themselves, they can so easily put themselves in the shoes of the immigrant mothers they will be working with in Mexico. For these reasons they decided to join thousands of other attorneys and legal professionals before them who have donated their time and talent to this cause.
Carrie and Julie are asking for donations to help defer the cost of their flights, housing, and food while they serve families who are fleeing the unimaginable in their home countries.
