We are Melissa and Samuel Cothran and we have been together for almost 11 years and have been married for 4 years. I am a registered nurse in Greenville, SC and Samuel is a teacher in Anderson County. We have been trying to conceive our first child for 3 and a half years now with no success thus far.

After our first year of trying to conceive, we reached out to a fertility specialist to find out why we were not conceiving. We went through timed cycles with medication to make me ovulate as well as intra uterine insemination (IUI) with no success! I then went through exploratory surgery to see what was going on and they found that I had stage 3 endometriosis. They were able to clean out most of it, but the possibility was high that it would come back again in the future.

After surgery, we began trying again and went through our first in vitro fertilization (IVF). We were able to have 1 embryo that made it to the freezing stage for transplantation. The embryo was transplanted and 2 weeks later we found out that it was not successful. We took some time to ourselves after that to decide if we wanted to do this again or move on to adoption. We decided to go again with round 2 of IVF. This time was more successful and they were able to get 2 sweet embryos to transplant. We had them both transplanted at the same time and prayed for twins!! Unfortunately, it was another failed cycle.
We have recently met with the doctors again and they are stunned that a woman at 27-years-old is having such a hard time getting pregnant when everything on paper looks good. The doctors explained to us that the best option we have is egg adoption because they believe my eggs are poor quality. Unfortunately, egg adoption is at minimum $12,000 and is not covered at all by insurance.
